How did I come up with this design? When I was a little girl, 30 or 40 years ago, we had a set of fancy, hand painted water glasses, from Tahiti, of course. My mother promised me that I would get them one year, and, a few years ago, having planned a trip here, maman was going to bring them to me. The problem was that the year before, in Tahiti, the house got hit by a hurricane. The top level of their house was damaged, along with dishes and the glasses reserved for me. So she came with ONE Glass, the only one remaining.
A few times I used the glass at the diner table but pretty much left it in the cabinet.
It isn’t until the year 2009 that I came up with the idea of using the pattern on that glass and put it on Christmas balls. It reminded me of home and voila… These Christmas balls have been sold as soon as I could finish them. As soon as I had 4 or 5 of them, they were gone.
In 2009 I started making them. They are simple, pretty, unique.
I only made a couple Christmas balls with the Tiare Tahiti pattern and decided that I would use the dancer pattern instead for all the rest.
This hand painted ball and the rest after that were made year 2010.
Maruru,
My wife and I visited Tahiti and Bora Bora from FLorida this year and we have a tradition of adding a christmas ball on our tree for any place we visit. You’re art is the most interesting we’ve seen. Is it possible to purchase one of your xmas balls?
Thank you.
